Registration Forms Are Due No Later Than September 15

  1. Entries must be received by September 15, 2017.  No entry will be accepted that is not pre-registered.  NO EXCEPTIONS.   Health papers must be attached to registration entry form.  Registration entry forms must be filled out completely.
  2. Mail all entries to:  Calvert County Fair, Attention: Poultry/Rabbit Dept, P.O. Box 224, Barstow, MD 20610.
  3. To show birds in the State of Maryland, you must provide a Maryland Domestic Poultry & Exotic Bird Premises Registration ID number.
  4. Cooping-in day is Tuesday of fair week from noon-8 p.m.
  5. All exhibits must be removed from the Poultry Building between 6 and 8 p.m. on Sunday after the fair closes.
  6. Any exhibits still remaining after 8 p.m. will become the property of the Poultry and Rabbit Department Chairperson to handle as they see fit.
  7. All birds must be Avain Flu and Pullorum tested and banded, and an original copy of test papers to be held until after the show.  For more information, contact John Brady, (410) 535-2058.
  8. All species of fowl entered in the fair will be subject to daily inspection by a representative of the Maryland Livestock Sanitary Service.  All birds showing symptoms of any disease will be disqualified and must be removed immediately from the building for the duration of the fair, and isolated, as directed by the Livestock Sanitary Service representative.  Such birds may not be returned to the building for the duration of the fair.  When notified of any sick species you must remove them within 24 hours.
  9. State whether entry is Large Fowl Poultry, Bantams, Ducks, Geese, Pigeons, Turkeys or Pheasants.  If not, they will be entered as Large Fowl and judged that way.  Only recognized breeds and varieties will be accepted.  Give name and variety as shown in the American Poultry Association “Standard of Perfection”.
  10. The same bird cannot compete in both the open and 4-H/Youth classes.
  11. All birds shown must be the property of the exhibitor at least 3 months before the fair.
  12. Specimens will be fed and watered and cared for the Poultry Department staff.
  13. Judging will be by comparison and governed by the American Poultry Association “Standard of Perfection”.  All specimens shall be exhibited in their natural conditions with the exception of Game and Game Bantams.
  14. Each exhibitor will be limited to a maximum of 40 birds or 40 rabbits.
  15. No advertising cards or inscriptions will be allowed on coops until after judging has been completed.
  16. No Trios or pairs will be shown.
  17. No exhibitor may enter more than one exhibit per class (same breeds).
  18. Any animals sold by Exhibitor will be the sole responsibility of the seller and buyer.  Calvert County Fair, Inc. will not be held responsible for any difficulties between the seller and the buyer.
  19. The management will not be responsible for loss by fire or otherwise, but will exercise all vigilance in the care of exhibits.  The greatest care will be taken of all specimens, but the Fair will not be responsible for accidents, mistake, loss, damage, from whatever arises.  The specimen is being exhibited at the sole risk of the exhibitor.
  20. Please put exhibitor’s age on all entry forms for exhibitors under age 18 for Poultry and Rabbit.
  21. Vaccinated birds and their commingled flock members may not be exhibited, sold, marked or otherwise brought in contact with other birds for 30 days following the last vaccination.
  22. All birds must be banded with state bands with the exception of pigeons.

Must have self certification for poultry and rabbits to be filled out day of entry.

SECTION E – Poultry:

Award: 1st $5 2nd – $4 3rd – $3

Classes:

1. Cock – Male hatched prior to 2016.
2. Hen – Female hatched prior to 2016.
3. Cockerel – Male hatched after January 1, 2016.
4. Pullet – Female hatched after January 1, 2016.

Classes will be offered for Cock, Hen, Cockerel and Pullet for each variety:  Large Fowl Poultry, Bantams, Ducks, Geese, Pigeons, Turkeys, and Pheasants.

Trophies:

  • Super Grand Champion of Show
  • Champions Large Fowl Open and 4-H/Youth
  • Champion Bantam Open and 4-H/Youth
  • Champion Waterfowl Open and 4-H/Youth
  • Champions Pheasant Open and 4-H/Youth
  • Champion Turkey
  • Champion Pigeon

SECTION F  RABBITS

Award: 1st $5 2nd – $4 3rd – $3

All rabbits will be inspected bythe staff of poultry and rabbit department before being cooped.  A daily inspection will be made by the Department of Agriculture.  Any rabbit showing signs of any illness will be removed from the show.  Must have self-certification to be filled out the day of entry.

Classes:

  1. Junior Doe less than 6 months
  2. Junior Buck less than 6 months
  3. Senior Doe over 6 months
  4. Senior Buck over 6 months

Trophies:

  1. Super Grand Champion of Show
  2. Champion Open Class
  3. Champion Junior Class

Please put the age on all entry forms for exhibitors under age 18 for Poultry and Rabbit.
